Alongside managing the
logistics of the company Catherine loves to get her creative juices
flowing, feeling most comfortable when bringing pieces to life. She
pitches in with every part of the process but most enjoys performing and
adapting. Among her favourite parts within the company she has loved
playing Gwendolyn in 'The Importance of Being Earnest', Mercutio in
'Romeo and Juliet' and Charlotte Bronte in 'Bronte'.
Novel adaptations are also very close to Catherine's heart as the
company seek to remain true to the original pieces whilst bringing them
onboard the theatrical rollercoaster. She loves adapting with her
husband John and within their extensive repertoire 'Wuthering Heights',
'Frankenstein', 'Peter Pan', 'Sense and Sensibility' and 'A Christmas
Carol' are some of her (many) most cherished.
John is the Artistic Director and Co-Founder of Tread the Boards Theatre Company.
John graduated from Birmingham School of Acting with a first degree in Acting and winning 'The Brian Shelton Meritum'.
John directs between 6-8 Tread the Boards shows a year. Together with his work with Tread the Boards he is a freelance director, audition coach and sits on the panel for Birmingham School of Acting.
Andy is Tread the Boards longest serving Associate Director with a penchant for modern comedy but also a great sense of pathos in pieces with great poigiance. His past direction for the company includes the John Godber trilogy: 'Bouncers', 'Shakers' and 'Teechers' and a great variety of thought-provoking plays; 'An Inspector Calls', 'The Elephant Man', 'Brimstone and Treacle' and 'Blood Relations'. Those who enjoyed the 2017 season will also know Andy's direction with 'Bronte' and 'The Diary of Anne Frank', which helped propel the company to the top spot on Trip Advisor.
'Poles Apart' by John Godber; the hilarious new comedy where scaffolders build a scaffolding tower in the middle of a dress rehearsal.
'Lillies on the Land' by The Lions Part; a play incorporating the stories of working women during World War One, with light hearted moments and those moments which unit us all in the endurance and perseverance of humanity through the worst times. Performed in commemoration of Armistice Day and the 100th anniversary of the end of World War One; a collection for The Poppy Appeal will take place.
Ash holds the title of the Tread the Boards Director who staged 'The Complete Works of William Shakespeare-Abridged!' for 3 separate productions, one of which and was taken to The RSC in its entirety and performed on the main stage as part of The Openstages festivities. This production then toured a sell out run at The Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Ash continued in the comedic vein witch 'Gasping' by Ben Elton and has also taken out company to great emotional depths with the challenging dark comedy 'A Day in the Death of Joe Egg'.
Ash also writes, directs and performs many piece for the company's touring arm and has led such brilliant events as 'Hall of the Damned' at Aston Hall's Halloween and 'Wrote Your Own Fairy Tale' interactive theatre for their Easter celebrations, which will be touring to Compton Verney among other locations.
'Up 'n' Under' by John Godber, mixing his love of the theatre with his utter obsession with rugby and it promises to be a witty and wonderful bit of fun! He will also be wearing a different rugby shirt to every rehearsal and performance, because he has that many. It's going to be 'scrum'-ptious, you'll be 'touched' and 'engaged' throughout and it'll be a challenge to 'try' to stop laughing!
